Winter horse care can be more demanding than any other time of the year as lower temps, wind and wet conditions cause a higher demand on a horse’s body for heat production.

Here are 5 tips to supplementing during the winter months:

1.)  Feed a high quality fatty acid supplement to add additional “cool” calories to your horses diet to maintain a healthy weight during colder temperatures.

2.)  Add a complete vitamin/mineral formula to ensure your horse is getting key nutrients in addition to a good quality hay.

3.)  Joint health becomes particularly important with the stress of colder weather and utilizing a joint support supplement will help minimize the effect of cold temperature on joint function.

4.)  High strength digestive aids can help support optimal digestion and assimilation of nutrients from feed and supplements.

5.)  Feeding an electrolyte can help provide essential, balanced amounts of major electrolytes for hydration since some horses aren’t as inclined to drink extremely cold water during winter months.
